dear family, do you recognize this location?

i was just doing the usual late-night dashboard-scrolling when i saw david’s photo in this post. clicked through, natch, because who is this jonathan, why does he have a bungalow, and where is this lovely sunset? well, i didn’t answer any of those questions…i got up to the “I’m a bride-to-be and I need a wedding photographer — help!” question in jonathan’s FAQ and clicked on the link to his sister’s blog instead. i did another quick scroll and hit the first photo (above) in this post without reading the title or text (the dashboard has trained me well); i recognized it instantly.

it being bhc. well OK, maybe my brain read the title without me realizing it, but i thought i knew that this was taken on the lodge lawn because of the position of the tree in relation to the opposite shoreline, and then the slight slope downward of the lawn. weird, right? i guess it’s not terribly weird if you think about how often i talk about the place, but jeez, all it took was an out of focus background?

p.s. in other the-internet-making-the-world-feel-tiny news, marco’s wife tiffany is a wedding photographer, and she shot the wedding of a guy i went to high school with. it’s not like these connections are implausible, but the way i found out about them, via people who work(ed) for tumblr, blows my mind a little bit every time. i still think of tumblr being very separate from my “IRL” world (what a ridiculous statement, but i can’t think of how else to explain the separation), so when they come full circle i’m always thrown off.

A heart made of 51 books on love. From the love of Botany to paperbacks with covers of cheesy illustrated chest baring Fabio looking men on top of a mountain with their lover grasping their leg in a torn gown. Those were the books your one Aunt in the family would read one after another.

wasn’t a fan of the cloying romance or the fuck-it-all-i-need-a-sequel hop across the pond but it did manage to touch on the burden of disease and jesus that just ripped me to shreds.

charlie loves the snow. he bounds through drifts that rise up to his shoulders and beyond, launching his entire body into the fluff and sometimes resurfacing with a mouse in his mouth. this is his second one this weekend.

first class letters up to one ounce in weight will, starting tomorrow, cost 45¢ to mail, so get your mailing done today (while it still costs 44¢ and you can still mail things on the weekend).

i mean, this hike doesn’t really mean anything when you’re still using stamps from 1995 and throwing out 20¢ with each letter, but for the rest of you…save that 1¢.

i took a nap on monday and then couldn’t fall asleep monday night. i stayed up until about 3:30, clicking about on the web and clicking through my hard drive looking at old pictures. my siblings and i had been emailing about our annual family vacation, and i had started feeling nostalgic.

for the years when i used to spend two weeks with my best friends in vermont.

for the years when we laughed too hard and filled up disposable cameras with memories.

for the years when the only media consumption we did for two weeks was watching bits* of the ten VHS tapes we brought up on the travel tv when it was raining outside.

*literally, bits. one of those is swordfish, which the boys particularly enjoyed.
