we spent most of the afternoon at storm king today, walking from the north woods to the south fields (skipping the wavefield. it was closed?). i brought my polaroid camera and took a few pictures, but none of them are very impressive. i mean, they’re just pictures of hunks of metal in the middle of fields. i’m not saying they are hunks of metal…that’s just how i ended up capturing the art. i clearly didn’t get it.
it was a fun trip and a gorgeous day though; the place was packed (as packed as 500 acres can be). most of the time we just talked about what the sculptures looked like, in the way that you cloud-watch and say it reminds you of a fluffy bunny rabbit. this one here is frogs legs by mark di suvero but i just saw a satellite on a stick. one reminded betsy of a reese’s peanut butter cup, and another reminded matt of the swarm. i saw a giraffe, a microscope, and collapsible bowls.
it’s no contained energy or turbulent release, but close enough, right?
